Inclusive Education recognises the right of ALL children to feel and be welcomed and fully accepted and included into a supportive educational environment in their own community educationally, emotionally, physically, and socially. This includes ensuring that the capacity of ordinary local schools and ECD Centres can and do respond to the needs of ALL learners, including those requiring extra support because of learning or physical disability, social disadvantage, cultural difference, or other barriers to learning.
So, in order for all children to have equal access to education the main goals set for this project are defining goals as set above through training appointed teacher assistants as per the Afrika Tikkun Job Fund specifications and in so doing creating a safe space in which to foster a culture of inclusion.
This is to be achieved through our own Teacher Assistant training course which we have developed and created. This training of 4 suitable candidates to be teacher assistants, will commence in September in an inclusive educational setting and we are looking forward, in collaboration with the Afrika Tikkun Team, to bringing about the ethos of: –
- All children learn alongside their same-age peers.
- The focus of education is on the child’s abilities, not disabilities.
- Children become accepting and understanding of one another’s abilities, talents, personalities, and needs
